How ARES teacher training and support work

Delivering a server and a box of notebooks doesn't change a school. Teachers do. That's why training and long-term support are built into every ARES installation.

Before day one

Just before or after installation, several teachers from each school complete a two-day intensive program covering how to find content, build it into lessons, project it in class and help students use it on their own.

After installation

ARES support staff who live in the area visit each school regularly to run refresher training, keep the equipment working and track student progress. Partners such as Ol Pejeta Conservancy also run annual ICT training for teachers in their community schools.

Does it work?

In our 2021 assessment, 94% of trained teachers said the training changed how they teach, and 84% had gone on to train their colleagues. Teachers like Samuel Irungu at Tigithi Boys and Mr Githiomi at Lechugu show what happens next.

Ongoing local support costs $750 per school per year. Find out how to help.
